Kumbh Mela is a Hindu Festival held every three years which switches between four different places, Namely Prayagraj, Ujjain, Haridwar and Nasik.
After 12 years Kumbh Mela returns to each location.
During this festival, the pilgrims bathe in
1. Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh – Triveni Sangam of Yamuna, Ganga and Saraswati
2. Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh – River Kshipra
3. Haridwar, Uttarakhand – River Ganga
4. Nashik, Maharashtra- River Godavari
Its believed that after the bath in these holy rivers particularly during this festival time, all their past sins are washed away and are blessed by the divine.
Kumbh means Nectar. Hindus believe that During this festival time, the waters of these holy rivers turn into nectar. The dates of this festival is set according to the perfect zodiac positions of the Sun, Moon and Jupiter. This moment is considered to be the holiest time in Hindu religion.
Kumbh Mela festival has a history of 2000 years. The Kumbh Mela is an event that involves the science of astronomy, astrology, spirituality, ritualistic traditions, local tradition and culture and their practices. All these make this festival extremely famous worldwide and rich in knowledge.
Kumbh Mela is the worlds largest gathering place. Millions of pilgrims gather every time. The great Kumbh Mela which was held in Prayagraj in 2001 attracted nearly 66 million people. This great Kumbh Mela occurs once in 144 years. Kumbh Mela is also the world’s largest peaceful gathering.
Kumbh Mela 2019
Kumbh Mela 2019 is held in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. Uttar Pradesh is at the heart of India and is known for its rich culture and tradition. Prayagraj was earlier known as Allahabad. But now its renamed to its original name. This place has lots of historical and mythological links. By Attending Kumbh Mela 2019, people can take delight in exploring the ancient temples, monuments, and several tourist places in Uttar Pradesh.
Millions of pilgrims gather in Triveni Sangam of Yamuna, Ganga and Saraswati, Prayagraj and take part in the bathing ritual. Kumbh Mela 2019 starts from 15 January and ends on March 04.
Although bathing in the sacred waters on these days of Prayagraj considered holy, there are some specific dates which are considered are to be a most ausoicious day

Honorable President Shri Ram Nanth Kovind inaugurated the Ganga aarti and met the saints taking part in this Mela. He also inaugurated 32′ tall statue of the Maharshi Bharadwaj.
To make this Kumbh Mela 2019 a memorable festival and more comfortable to the pilgrims, Uttar Pradesh government has done lots of excellent works. Lots of permanent infrastructures and temporary arrangements are made just for this world-famous Kumbh Mela
These key initiatives are upgradation of Railway Stations, bus terminals., construction of the new terminal in Prayagraj airport. There ae also ferry rides to travel to the bathing ghats.
All the streets are well lit and almost 40,700 thousand new LED lights have been installed. For the smooth traffic management, all the places in the area, digital signage are installed. More than 1 lakh toilets are constructed. And More than 15,000 sanitation workers are employed just for cleaning and sanitation works.
For the safety of pilgrimages, more than 1,000 CCTV cameras are set up in the whole mela area. Nearly 4000 premium class tents are set up in the area to facilitate maximum numbers of tourists and pilgrims.
Paint my city is a good initiative from the Government authorities to beautify the city of Prayagraj. Artists and volunteers across the country and also from outside the country have worked very hard to paint and beautify the walls and streets. Paintings showing the culture, tradition, facts about the Kumbh Mela, even some Bollywood stars pictures are painted. Cultural programs are arranged in different parts of the city and till the festival ends. Pilgrims and Tourists can enjoy taking part in the festival, as well as watching these cultural programs and also trying out many types of local food too.
How to reach Prayagraj
Prayagraj is an important religious, educational, and administrative centre of India, Prayagraj is very well connected to all the major cities of India via Air, Rail, and Road. And all these facilities are improved a lot.
If you are reaching Prayagraj trainain then there are 10 Railway Stations in and around Prayagraj.
Prayagraj airport is located in Bamrauli at a distance of 12 km from the main city. This airport is well connected to other domestic airports in Delhi, Lucknow, Patna Indore & Nagpur. Just for the Kumbh Mela 2019, there are special flights arranged from different places.
Prayagraj city has a good connection o the National and State Highway network for transportation by road. There are lots of government-run and private run buses, to and fro Prayagraj.
Weather forecast During this Kumbh Mela is very good. The temperature is pleasant throughout the day. It is very good for boating and taking bath in the holy river because the rivers are very calm and steady at this time of the year.
Once when you are done with the Kumbh Mela, there are various other temples and historical monuments in Prayagraj. Each one has its interesting stories and facts. Also visit many historical and religious places nearby Like, Ayodhya, Varanasi, Chitrakoot.
All the safety and convenience of the huge number of gatherings are well taken care of. Many Disaster Management teams are deployed in all the corners and junctions of Prayagraj, monitoring the situation through out the Mela. High-tech Lost and Found registration centers , Variable Message Display (VMD) Boards, Integrated Traffic Management System, all these are well planned and perfectly set up.
