Lakshadweep is a group of 36 beautiful and exotic islands, located around 400 kms from India’s west coast into the Arabian Sea. Lakshadweep means “ hundred thousand islands”. Lakshadweep is India’s smallest Union Territory. Out of 36 islands only 10 are inhabited. Lakshadweep can be accessed from Kochi with the permission for all the tourists, that includes even Indians. Lakshadweep is the best place with beautiful and very clean beaches, good for scuba diving, diving, kayaking and snorkeling. Kavaratti is famous among all the islands and is the capital of Lakshadweep.

Kavaratti Island is the capital of Lakshadweep. Kavaratti Island is also the base for INS Deeprakshak, this is one of the main Indian Navy Base.

Minicoy Island was formerly known as Maliku or Mahiladu. Mahiladu means women’s island . Minicoy is the second largest island in Lakshadweep. This island is famously known for its vibrant coral reefs, white-sand beaches and the fresh water. There are many luxury beach resorts which are an ideal destination for the travelers seeking silence and want to have calm holidays. Minicoy climate is tropical with warm temperatures almost throughout the year.

Agatti Island with total area of a little over 3 square kilometers, is one more beautiful island. You can explore the whole island by foot or can hire two wheeler and wander. Andretti Island is the only one island situated in the east-west direction of Lakshdweep. All others are located in the north-south direction. This is the largest island among the group of island. Andretti is also located close the Indian mainland. This island has got the maximun population compared to other islands in Lakshadeep. Usually tourists who visit this island spend their evenings at the seaside relaxing and also this is the best place to spot various aquatic animals including octopuses.

Amindivi Island are one of the three major island among the group of islands in Lakshadweep. This is located in the northern part of Lakshadweep. Amindivi has many small islands, all are famous tourist attractions. This island is a best place for those seeking to experience the local culture and markets of Lakshadweep. Because of some government regulations, only Indians are allowed to visit this island and foreign tourists are not allowed . Amindivi islands can be reached both by air or by sea.
